Contours GlowFlex™ Universal Changing Pad Light

This products initial ID and original function was designed by Larry Freese and it was my task to develop it further with our Quality Engineers to production. The concept is designed to affix to our standard changing pad, and many others like it, to illuminate a change in the dark. Debug included developing a new ‘clamp’ mechanism and ensuring it was strong enough to resist a kick from the child, which ultimately required 3 strategies for success: strong clamp strength, rubber pads and optional Hook and Loop components, with the Loop to be attached to the bottom of the pad. Lens and PC board retention details, battery compartment and in-mold warning labels also needed to be included in the plastic part design. I also developed the renderings, animations and illustrations for the product.

This was a late version Keyshot rendering using production CAD.

EXPLODED VIEW

In the aesthetic specification, this view was continuously updated from SolidWorks as the design was modified.

ID TRANSLATION

The CAD images on the left were the original aesthetic and functional intent, the Keyshot renders on the right were the final production design and function.

DEBUG

As the Engineering Pilot samples arrived, the debug evaluation needed to be thorough to ensure quality and function as well as cost.
