ENGINEERING SAMPLE

Photo of Engineering Sample 2 - combination of SLS, CNC, some production GF Nylon and wheels, steel tubing and softgoods. This model was the tooling approval, with minor modifications made through debug.

BRAINSTORM

In 2020 I organized 5 brainstorm groups over Teams calls combined with whiteboard and homework assignments. Two sessions each and a full company review of the results. I did most of the whiteboard post-it sketches and all of the above overall concept sketches.

CONCEPT

Inset is a breadboard made of square steel tubing and round electrical conduit, Form2 resin and Ultimaker FDM printed joints, off-the-shelf wheels, conduit, foam core representation of softgoods. Keyshot renders used for feature research show size, function with scale reference.

ALPHA - FIT TESTING

Moving away from the x-frame to minimize pinching risk and to strengthen the design, a mockup made from competitor parts was created for alpha testing with children and parents. This model also helped us avoid a patented detail of the frame.

FACTORY MODEL

First factory Engineering model which refined the concept, tested the softgoods and provided with accurate costing.

STRATEGY RENDERS

Costing considerations led to exploration of a 2-tier platform strategy, where the lower tier did not have a footwell and other premium features. Keyshot renderings of the two versions used for strategy and buyer review.

INSTRUCTION ILLUSTRATION

In past projects, I created the storyboard for instruction, and outside Illustrators created the files for our Graphic Designer to layout and adjust. This project required inhouse development of the illustrations, which I created in Adobe Illustrator.

ANIMATIONS

Keyshot animations were used to demonstrate the maneuverability compared to competition.
